We have been in contact with PO HQ and the good news is that they are, "Committed to setting up a Post Office in Datchet again". We now need to find a suitable business in the village to locate and run the service.

Anyone interested in the opportunity can view it here https://runapostoffice.co.uk/home/result/show/datchet-post-office-slough-sl3-9ea You can find out about the business, what a Post Master/Mistress does, and register interest in the franchise.

The PO are looking for an EXISTING or NEW RETAIL BUSINESS to run the Datchet service. The service is not a standalone business and needs to run within another retail business.

Opening hours relate to the opening hours of the premises For example, if you run a grocery store that opens until 8pm then you will be expected to open the PO counter to 8pm.

The only outlay is the set up cost estimated at £10k - £12.5k. Set up costs include infrastructure, security and training. There is no cost for the franchise itself.

Business owners are paid per PO counter transaction.

Once parties have registered serious interest via the website the PO will send someone out to talk with them about the opportunity and what is involved.

If this goes well then there is a formal application process for suitability, security checks and business sustainability checks. This is all a confidential process. Once approved applications are in the PO will review and select the most compelling interested party. This recruitment process takes about 6 weeks.

Following the selection of a suitable party there will be a 6 week public consultation where PO HQ ask the public for feedback. Following this a public announcement will be made on the decision.

Minimum of 12 weeks to select the new PO owner if everything runs to schedule i.e. enough suitable candidates apply, there are no issues with security checks, etc. The closing date for applications is 31 March 2017 but could be shortened if there is a lot of interest. This means that the new Post Office is unlikely to open for at least 6 months.
