Staines to Windsor & Eton Riverside Closure: 21st – 27th February 2022

We are writing to make sure you aware of the upcoming week-long closure of the line between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside. This will allow Network Rail to carry out important infrastructure works which will help to improve reliability, journey times and potential route capacity.

How will South Western Railway services be affected?

From Monday 21st February to Sunday 27th February, buses will replace SWR trains between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside stations. Throughout this closure, London Waterloo to Windsor services will terminate at Staines where a bus replacement service will continue to Windsor & Eton Riverside.

On Sunday 27th February, SWR services for Windsor & Eton Riverside will terminate at Hounslow and buses will operate between Hounslow and Windsor & Eton Riverside via Staines.

The timings of the replacement bus services are now available for people to plan their journeys here.

How have you been telling people about this closure?

To keep customers informed, we’ve worked closely with Network Rail to ensure as many people know about the closure as possible. Our joint information campaign has grown each week over the past few months and includes posters and electronic displays at stations, on platform and in train announcements, a cumulative social media campaign on both of our Twitter accounts plus Network Rail press releases to relevant local media.

You can find the most recent combined NR and SWR news release on the closure here.

Why is this closure taking place?

This closure is part of the wider Feltham and Wokingham resignalling project. Once the project is complete, customers will see multiple benefits such as more capacity for additional trains in the future, fewer delays, and a more resilient service. The closure this week will also allow engineers to carry out track maintenance to improve reliability, as well as conducting routine structural inspections.
