Brief Guide to Your Parish Council

Datchet Parish Council owns and maintains much of the "open space" in the village, such as the recreation ground, village greens, cemetery, and the riverbank near the Boatyard.

Owns and leases properties which are either used or let out to third parties for the benefit of the Village. These properties include The Bridge at 24 The Green, the Village Hall and Day Centre, the Library and Police Point at Montagu House, the Youth Club, the Scout Hut, Medical Centre, Cemetery Lodge and Cemetery Chapel.

Maintains and manages the grounds and property assets, and develops new facilities, which in recent years have included the new Library, floodlighting of the ball-court, renovation of the children's play area, the chair store and toilets at the Village Hall, refurbishment of 24 The Green and repair of the London Road milestone.

Provides a voice for the Village on policy matters in dealings with the Royal Borough, eg Parking control, Flood and Planning issues etc.

Parish Council Achievements

Datchety Cemetery, Ditton Road.

The Parish Council have built a new path along the far boundary of the cemetery to give all year round access to the graves for families and visitors. Before, this area was very uneven and muddy in the winter months. Now there is a dry, clean path and the seats have been replaced making it a quiet place to sit and remember loved ones.

The Parish Council have also replaced the old  wooden fencing with a new green coated metal fence which blends in with the surrounding trees and bushes.

We have also rebuilt the damaged entrance pillar and repaired the gates.

New entrance signs are planned for February 2017.

Datchet Riverside

The Parish Council in partnership with The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and The Barker Bridge House Trust have almost completed a major refurbishment project at the Riverside Gardens, on Windsor Road, Datchet.

The works have included the building of a new riverside wall and footpath along the whole river frontage along with new mooring rings for visiting boats. We have refurbished all of the seats and put these on new bases and installed 3 new picnic tables. There is a new co-ordinated range of litter bins and lighting bollards and a wider access on the central path. The whole site has been regrarded and turfed. The frontage with Windsor Road has had a new bonded gravel strip installed along with new and refurbished white post and chains.

We have unfortunately had to remove 2 of the older tress for health and safety reasons and will shortly be pruning the other trees to allow more light into the site to help the new turf grow.

We are also looking at ways to prevent the geese from grazing the new turf and will be resurfacing the area underneath the picnic benches.

Village Green - New street furniture and planters

The Parish Council have agreed upon a new co-ordinated range of street furniture for all of the village greens and have started with Gossip Green, where we have installed new seats, litter bins and a notice board which is a focal and meeting point in the village centre.

We have replaced all of the old rotten timber planters with new metal ones which for the village greens are green and around the library and shops are black to co-ordinate with the building and the village heritage.

Next year we will be carrying on replacing the seats and bins on the other village greens, and the planters by the village hall complex.

We plan to resurface the gravel strips around the greens with a resin bonded gravel similar to that used at the riverside.
