Residents are set to benefit from a greener, more energy-efficient Windsor Leisure Centre following the completion of a major programme of low-carbon improvements.

Funded through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, administered by Salix Finance, and the Royal Borough’s Carbon Offset Fund, the programme has transformed how the centre is heated and powered, replacing gas-fired equipment with modern low-carbon technology that will improve the building’s overall energy performance and create a more comfortable, consistent environment for users.

New accommodation for care leavers approved

The Royal Borough has approved plans for new accommodation which will help care leavers live more independent lives.

Approved at a meeting of the Royal Borough’s Cabinet on Tuesday 30 June, the new accommodation in Maidenhead will provide stable housing for care leavers until they are ready to live independently and enable them to remain close to their support networks such as family, friends and education as they transition out of care.

Ofsted and CQC recognise SEND progress

Children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in the Royal Borough are benefiting from ambitious leadership, strong partnership working and increasingly responsive support services, with improvements needed to further strengthen support, according to a recent inspection by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Summer Reading Challenge returns this Saturday with a musical twist

Children across the Royal Borough are invited to discover the joy of reading this summer as the Summer Reading Challenge returns to libraries from Saturday 11 July until Saturday 12 September.

This year’s challenge, themed ‘Read to the Beat’, promises to be the biggest and most exciting yet as libraries celebrate the National Year of Reading with a programme packed full of music, creativity and fun.

Royal Borough sets out plan to make better use of public buildings and assets

Plans to make better use of the buildings and land the council owns have been set out by the Royal Borough as part of a new framework that places supporting council services and meeting residents' needs at the heart of all property decisions.

The Asset Management Framework, which will be considered by Cabinet on Thursday 16 July, represents a significant step in the council's transformation to a corporate landlord model, changing the way property decisions are made across its estate.

Rather than viewing land and property primarily as assets to be managed in their own right, the framework establishes a clear principle that the council's buildings and land should first and foremost support the delivery of services, strengthen communities and help achieve the council's priorities.

Amber heat health alert

An Amber heat health alert for the South East is due to run until 9am on Sunday 12 July.

If you can, check in on vulnerable loved ones and neighbours as they’re more likely to be affected. Help keep your home cool by closing all windows and any curtains or blinds facing the sun. Reopen when the temperature is cooler outside.

Early bin collections will continue until Friday 17 July - so please make sure your bins are out by 6am on your scheduled collection day.
