Wessex Route - Stakeholder Update

Datchet level crossing

Dear Stakeholder

Datchet level crossing

We’re sorry for the disruption on the railway in your area yesterday afternoon. Shortly before midday, a fault at Datchet Level Crossing meant we needed to close the railway between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside. We recognise the crossing failure caused both delays and cancellations to train services, as well as increased congestion on roads in the area, and we’re sorry for the impact on local journeys.

Since then, our team have been working to understand the underlying cause behind the incident, which is related to the power supply, and to rectify the fault as quickly as possible.

To carry out our repair work to the system today, we’ve had to put in place a road closure on High Street (Datchet) to facilitate the work. Road diversions are in place and we’re grateful to local motorists for their patience and understanding while we work to repair the railway.

We would appreciate your support in sharing this note locally, and if you or local residents have any questions, please feel free to get in touch via CommunityRelationsSouthern@networkrail.co.uk.

Finally, as you may be aware, we’re currently carrying out a 4-year multi-million pound upgrade in your area which will replace 500 separate pieces of the 1970s signalling equipment across 80 miles of railway, all with the aim of improving train performance and giving customers more reliable journeys. More details are available here.

Yours sincerely
